THIRTY-FIVE

I got to spend a lovely weekend in Utah visiting old friends.

2023 week thirty-five

They apologized for the heat, but it was barely in the 80s and in the morning it was 65. It was a glorious respite from the Texas late summer.

I've been friends with these two lovely ladies for 16 years now. It's hard to believe it's been so long, but I also couldn't even imagine my life without them.

Our hike was just stunning. Every turn was a new gasp, ooh or aaaah, or to be more accurate a hysterical snort of laughter from some memory or other.

Another lovely walk on another lovely day. Utah was doing its best to beat a Texas sky for glorious.

And Utah always seems to have some hidden bounty. We found a mostly abandoned and overgrown plum and perhaps a plum/apricot hybrid tree. I filled our bags with as much as I could carry and ate as much as I could in the meantime. Nothing tastes as good as sour little plums warm from the sun in late summer.

My cats being cute.

I mean, come on.

All of Matt's spare minutes has been helping his brother fix up their house in preparation for moving in.

After painting they decided they were just going to go for gold and tarped everything and figured out how to remove all the old popcorn ceiling texture. Thankfully there are enough willing people around to shuffle childcare so any able-bodied adult could work as much as possible. Thank you for helping us while I was sipping coffee and chatting in beautiful Utah.

Theo being so silly.

I loved the way this snake skeleton was framed. I wonder if we will ever be able to recreate this.

Feeling so snakey at the Ogden Farmer's Market. My students loved seeing my new earrings today.

And Funyun was causing SO much drama today. I had to just give up and set a 2 minute timer to let everyone watch him slither around for a bit.

Theo reunited with his old Preschool buddy for a birthday party. They are sweet friends.

Quotes

Me -"V don't tell anyone I blended this pesto instead of grinding it."
V - "No problem."
Later
Matt- "I'm not going to be able to finish my pasta, I got too much."
V- "Or are you just unable to finish it because Mama blended this instead of grinding it properly?"

V- "Do you want to hear my song about having to eat this olive?"
Me- "No."
V- "Sends shivers down my spine, stomach hurting all the time..."
T- "Olives, NoooooooOOOOOooooOOO!"

  1. I loved having you here and life in Utah is just a little bit lacking ever since you went back to Texas.
