TWENTY

Theo having a magical moment with a butterfly at the Dallas Discovery Gardens.

2023 week twenty

Matt caught a teenager possum in our chicken coop. He was unhappy about being removed.

The long sought-after Alien Queen has arrived. Theo finally earned enough money to buy her and boy is he pleased.

This sentence made me crack up.

Every day I jealously admire the squash growing in the school gardens....

We've had so many guest visitors. This is the only photo I can show because it doesn't show all the students' faces. We've had a meteorologist teach us about thunder storms and tornadoes, ninth graders dissect a frog and squid for us, and a senior brought in her leopard gecko and hognose snake.

My brother and his fiancee Aundie came to visit for a quick weekend. On Friday night Matt and I took them to Deep Ellum for the best barbecue and pies that can be had in Dallas. On Saturday we took them to Fair Park to the Discovery Gardens.

Here are some naughty monkeys trying to touch the butterflies.

After the magical butterfly house we walked around the gorgeous gardens and enjoyed the absolutely best weather that Dallas could muster for late May.

We stopped by a creaky old piano and Jared serenaded us.

We just happened to be there on Turtle Day! This is the day they catch the turtles in the pond and measure and mark them. We got to look at this angry snapping turtle up close.

That afternoon was crawdads -basically the only reason Jared decided to come to Texas.

Helping make the broth.

We had such a fun visit with them and stuffed them with as much good food as we could before they left.

On Sunday afternoon, Veronica and I got to go see some of her friends in a Willy Wonka musical. They did such a great job. V was bouncing on her seat the entire time.

Quotes:

After Matt pushed Theo in the pool, "Papa, have you gone mad?!"

After V was telling me about all the times plans with cousins fell through, *Sigh* "There's no escaping fate."
