SEVENTEEN

When your sister does your hair...
2018 week seventeen

Donuts for breakfast on the day before her birthday. V's weekend was nonstop party fun and it started Thursday.

Playing "I'm falling down a sewer drain." The sink became a nice substitute for a man hole. He kept reminding me how "draingerous" it was and I kept laughing about how appropriately funny that is.

Being sweet at the park with Papa.

Papa caught her a snake. She was thrilled.

Birthday dinner request: Biscuits and gravy and hot dogs.

Blueberry cupcakes that look quite a mess...

They can be precious.

She woke up on her birthday looking so big.

Veronica decided she wanted a Hocus Pocus Birthday Party. This was her invitation. :) She's so much cooler than the rest of us.

This is how you take a popsicle pinata and turn it into a theme appropriate one:

Tada! Binx pinata.

Party favors and witch party hats.

Strawberry witches cake.

Setting up the party treats.

She decided to break theme and wear her new Moana costume from Grandpa Dean for the whole party.

The pinata was as good as armor plated and Matt had to resort to ripping it open for the kids.

Strawberry cake with pastry cream and raspberry filling and an Italian Meringue Buttercream. Only one kid liked it. The rest sang in chorus that they didn't like it and promptly scattered to the corners of the yard to eat their pinata candy.

The festivities continued on Sunday when we went to Scarborough Renaissance Fair. V and T got to ride an elephant for the first time and it was pure magic for them. I felt a little bad because I know it's not good for elephants backs...

Ok. Cirque Du Sewer was amazing. The rats didn't really impress me. But the CATS! As a cat owner I was blown away at what this lady was able to train cats to do. They were jumping on command! Jumping through hoops! Standing up and spinning circles! Dancing on her shoulders! Jumping up and over her while she was dancing! Then she balanced one on her head, danced on pointe, and juggled knives! Wow.

Entranced. Wearing her Moana costume again, and her new birthday princess crown courtesy of Oma. She really enjoyed being addressed as Moana by all the strange costumed adults.

All the rides are Man or Horse powered. We were impressed.

The mermaids were probably their second favorite after the elephants.

Happy (long) Birthday weekend to my wonderful, inventive, intelligent, kind, brave, wild and crazy 5 year old daughter.

Quotes:

Theodore:

Me- "You are so beautiful."
T -"Yeah. I eat all my bugs."
Me- "Is that why you're so beautiful?"
T- "YES!"

"I need to show Roanica. I find spider down sewer drain. It's a very draigerous spider." I swear they've never seen "IT" but that was suspicious sounding...

Veronica:

Veronica looking at our big wall map "Is this our whole planet and the rest is space?! Wow. It's a really good planet. I love living on our planet and not just having to live in space."

Veronica talking to herself while playing "Wow. you're really good at sewing. Oh yes it's because my mother taught me. Every time she sewed she said, 'Come here so you can learn!' and now I'm the best in the world." So naturally I felt like she was sending me some kind of message so as I was sewing at the time I asked her if she wanted to see me put in a zipper. She ran over, looked hard at the sewing machine for a second and said, "Uhm, no. I need to go play."

To her cousin, "Hocus Pocus is good for ANY time of the year."

Speaking of "any time of the year" she's been humming Christmas songs non stop for about a week.
