EIGHTEEN

Featuring: A dinner I love that everyone complained about. Starring: cheesy grits, runny fried egg, sautéed mushrooms and bacon, and a pile of fried okra.

2023 week eighteen

It was teacher appreciation week this week. A student brought me a burrito he made all by himself for my breakfast. How thoughtful. He was so proud and told me the recipe twice. Spoiler: its a tortilla and beans. But that's a combo that's never gone wrong.

Another student brought me homemade rosemary bread. I enjoyed that for my Saturday morning breakfast alone on the back porch.

Ignore the gardener's hands, and look instead at the first tomatoes of the year!

Matt was out of town for a long weekend boys trip. V's special friend movie night was cancelled so I tried to cheer the kids up with Hibachi.

From the look on V's face, it was clearly mesmerizing.

A couple months ago we picked up these chairs on the side of the road. The shape of the chairs were so gorgeous I had to take them even if I didn't know what I was going to do with them yet.

I finally decided to just cover the upholstery in marine-grade vinyl so they can withstand the elements a bit better than the original tweed upholstery. I'm so pleased.

We have a horrible corner in our house where we just let this spider pay rent. She's so messy, but clearly does great business by our front door. Apparently, she had babies this weekend, and Theo tried to get a good photo of them... all crawling away...deeper into my house...

One of the upper school teachers has a little garden for a horticulture class near our playground. He has so many gorgeous squash blossoms and he said I could take a few the next time I saw some good ones. I snagged these four connected to baby squash. I stuffed the flowers with ricotta and pine nuts, battered them and fried them for a delicious late-night snack. With the leftover batter, I fried some sage leaves as well.

Theo ranked up to blue belt this week!

Matt and his friends at The Red Rocks in Denver.

They stumbled upon a fun Cinco de Mayo festival and particularly enjoyed the cars and the hydraulics.

I also got to go see several of my students play soccer this weekend. It was so fun to see them work so hard in a very different capacity. I was proud of them.
