TWENTY-THREE

Delightful selfie by Theo...

2022 week twenty-three

He's been stealing my phone a lot lately to leave little "surprise jokes" in my photo roll.

It was Scout Day at Rangers Stadium so we took the kids to their first baseball game. They had the time of their lives: loud noises, peanuts, cracker jacks, cousins, cheering.

I think we changed his life taking him to that Rangers game. He hasn't taken this shirt off in 3 days and has asked me every morning when we are going back to another baseball game.

Summer camp No. 1: Basketball camp at our local rec center. They ran around for three hours and could hardly keep their eyes open through lunch and they both took a deep two hour nap in the afternoon.

Matt and I went on a date to Eataly. Excuse me friends, how have you never told me about this place? It was a Lana trap. I could have spent three more hours and many more hundreds of dollars in that gem of a market. And the cannoli. We need to pause for this cannoli. I love a cannolo. But this one. Very lightly sweetened sheep's milk ricotta: check. Fresh crackling cannoli shell: check. Pistachios: check. I forced myself to share with Matt and ate the rest with my eyes brimming with rapturous tears. Food is my first great love. It's fine. I'm fine. This is normal.

Lost in the cheese and salami aisles.

Me having more fun than is probably good for me.

We bought more cheese than we could appreciate on our own, so we had a few couples over to help us feast.

We love the Pasta Grammar youtube channel. They always tell me about some amazing Italian delicacy that I'm no way ever going to get to have until I go to Turin or Sicily or Calabria. And then we went to Eataly. And we found them all. I was most pleased with finding 'Nduja. It's a spreadable salami. We sauteed it in a pan and cracked an egg in the spicy rendered fat and had it on toast. Not a traditional breakfast by Italian standards but hey, we're not actually Italian so we'll eat eggs and spicy sausage for breakfast with no reservations.

Quotes

Me- "Theo! Please I don't want to hear that. It's gross."
Theo- "But my burp was already cocked!"

When I went to check on the kids at night I found that Veronica had taped open the latch so it wouldn't fully click closed so that Salem would be able to open her door to snuggle with her at night. Sneaky little bug.
