TWENTY-FIVE

Our Library has the best summer programs. Each Monday night there is a fun family activity. Last week the Hula Dancers came. V is the one in the coon skin cap... naturally.

2022 week twenty-five

They were quite impressive.

For some reason Theo has decided to be afraid of wasps this week. It may be because he saw me get stung and feels they are a viable threat now. But for whatever reason, he's making quite a fuss about being outside. He wouldn't go check for chicken eggs without a hood, gloves, and rubber boots in 100 degrees.

Matthew has a rare genetic eye disease. He was chosen to take part in an experimental treatment trial and he went in for surgery this past Tuesday. Here is his eye before.

And here it is after! The doctor said everything went very well and that hemorrhaging like this is completely normal even though it looks like a horror film special effect.

He had to go in two days in a row and it is a bit of a hike to get him to the doctors. Luckily the kids were able to spend time with some good friends both of the days. We're very grateful to everyone who helped during those two days.

They also got to swim in Mrs. Jones' pool two days this week -lucky ducks.

That, there, in Theo's hand is a beetle grub - real, honest, living, insect grub.

Horrifying. Matt is growing three different beetles in our closet. Yes. On purpose. Nature is marvelous and horrifying.

On Friday night we took the kids and Matt's parents to go see Dallas Shakespeare in the Park. They did A Midsummer Night's Dream. It is one the kids know fairly well thanks to our Lego Shakespeare comic books -I highly recommend those by the way.

We were prepared for a sweltering evening. Luckily, a quick thunderstorm blew in. It delayed the play by an hour but the temperature dropped nearly 20 degrees and we got a breeze and a few raindrops. Not getting home until midnight was more than worth the cooler evening. It is always so fun to go to Shakespeare in the park.

Look at this girl. I am most proud of teaching her these two life habits: fruit is the preferred snack and naps are desirable.

Ah, your weekly "Theo has found my phone and left me treasures" album.

Happy Father's Day. We all crammed into the kitchen to make Father's Day dinner for Matt and his Dad. Theo and Gary were making the limeade. Joanie was prepping all the vegetables. Veronica was the tortilla monkey. Matt was bustling around doing all the odd jobs, and I was making queso and barbacoa beef. Everything was spot on. Then we had homemade almond hazelnut icecream and a silly movie to round out the evening. It was a lovely way to celebrate Matthew and Gary.
