Last Sunday the cubscouts had a lot of fun learning from the Denton County Sheriff's Dept, and trying on the gear.
2021 week thirty-six
Giraffe gets her own special seat at the table.
Four two days our kids basically had to fend for themselves. You can see here how Theo went a bit feral in the eyes. Wednesday afternoon I tested positive for Covid at school. The kids were negative but we were all sent home bc I was apparently viral shedding like a long-haired cat in spring. We had to wait two days before testing them again, so Matt also had to keep his distance from them.
So they made themselves a swamp, and happily lived in the muck- pausing occasionally to eat applesauce tubes and popsicles. Also apparently a lot of peanut butter because I set my hand in peanut butter patches every time I ventured out of my quarantine room to fill up my teacup with hot water.
I'm assuming our water bill will be reflective of those two days. Matt tested negative on Thursday and kids were negative again on Friday, so he could man the parenting ship for the remainder of the weekend.
He brought out our Halloween family lego set hoping to get a bag or two done and guessing we'd be done and ready for it to go on display in October. Then Veronica was hit with Lego fervor and sat listening to The Graveyard Book while building nearly the entire thing herself in two days. She had to stop because her fingers were getting sore. :)
In my quarantine, I made myself a medieval costume. I was going to need one in November for our class field trip to Medieval Times and quite suddenly had extended empty hours on my hands. I made a kirtle (the brown dress), a shift (white underwear gown), a sideless surcoat (red over dress), a fillet (basically a headband to hold braids back), and a veil (obvious). I feel lucky that being sick really only meant that I had a rough headache and a bit of congestion. Some odd stomach ickiness as well was present. So I had the wherewithal to accomplish projects and read books.
While my children ran amok, they left lovely little absurdities around my house.
And when the cat wasn't purring next to me, he was longingly gazing at popcorn.
Matt sent me this photo of the lego technic set he's building with Theodore. This image was supposed to be really impressive to me. I understand that this must in fact be extremely impressive. But it's similar to me explaining to him the magic of medieval triangle goring of skirts... there is a disconnect in what impresses us. :)
2/3rds of the Haunted Mansion that was supposed to take them all month... I don't mind if Halloween starts early.
Quotes:
Theodore
Sobbing when being told he had to be sent home from school, "But we got all our STARS! I was going to be able to bring my starfish to school! And now I have to be home with you with dumb old Coronavirus!"
Crying when he lost the game of Memory after helping every one of us find matches during our turns:
Me- Theo! You were so helpful to us! You win the most helpful player award!
Theo- No! The most LOSER player award. The number one stinky diaper baby!
While fighting with V in the car:
"You can pinch me anytime you want, you will only get SADNESS!"
Theo's teacher told me this story:
Theo was walking past a girls desk and stopped to tell her, "Wow! Look how well you colored that squash! You used such beautiful colors! You should be proud of yourself!" then he walked to the teacher and half whispered, "She did a really good job coloring her squash. Maybe, you know, she should get a prize or something." This beautiful boy with such a tender encouraging heart. He is the body of a young bull, with the heart of a little rabbit.
Veronica
I leave you with Veronica reciting a poem of her own writing, "I wish I Had a Fox."
