Quotes
Theodore
Every morning in line at school Theo brings a piece of paper and a pencil to draw while he waits for the assembly to start, one day he was writing his friends' names and drawing them as fish. Emma was a narwhal, "How does it feel to be a sea UNICORN, Emma?"
On the tenth day of school the kindergarten calendar adds a tens place to their place value chart. His teacher had been hyping up the tenth day of school and something special that was going to happen, "Today is the tenth day of school! Something exciting is happening today! I had a dream that it was the tenth day of school and it was a carnival! And all my friends were there. I'm so excited about the tenth day of school!
I asked him after school what exciting thing happened, prepared for him to be so disappointed after the hype. "WE DREW A 10! It had a silly smiley face in the zero called Zero the Hero! It was so funny." No one can match his enthusiasm.
Veronica
A poem by Veronica (spelling has not been corrected)
"The forest holds geat secrets, But none of them are known, you can never know them, only the animals know. One time a human walked, into the forest depths, then the trees warend him, if he dare take a step, that he is risking every thing, to just know the forests ways, and secrets."
I never liked the book The Wind in the Willows. I felt like it was boring or I was missing something. I know it's greatly lauded by all the great writers, but I just didn't get it. Vera's class is reading the Wind in the Willows right now. I keep asking her how she likes it, convinced it may be boring to her. I'm so surprised to find the opposite. It has completely unlocked her imagination and inspired her to write her own story fashioned in the same style. She spent a few hours with a friend on Saturday writing "A Whisper in the Woods" about sylvan animals who are friends. They were totally absorbed. I'm so pleased to see her enter this new world of imagination and writing. I'm so grateful for good books that bring magic and richness to our lives.
