Grandpa is building a giraffe and he let the kids ride on it for a minute.
Theo stuck in my room again during repairs. He spelled almost every word himself in this bananagram message.
Salem being everyone's perpetual entertainment.
We were out of our kitchen for a few days while we got new tile laid.
Our living room became everything.
We ate a lot of hagelslag toast.
Or sizzled in our garden during this heat wave.
I never knew how much I loved growing sunflowers. They are here to stay. I will plant them every year now.
Tile going in!
Without our refrigerator our kitchen felt enormous .
I love our new tile so much. It ended up being much more earth tone than pastel but it works so well in our little space. I want to take photos of everything against this tile.
I watched a lot of Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat with Veronica. She was so enchanted by Samin Nosrat. She declared she could make pasta because "That looks so easy!" and then marched Theo into the garden to be her sous chef while she opened up a salad restaurant.
We found a fledgling blue jay in our yard this weekend. It really liked Matt.
We had a Father's Day dinner for Matt's dad that included the iconic things he would prepare for the kids when they were little. The bowl of "excedrin" (tictacs) was to tease him for his dependence on them. :)
We had lil' smokies in bbq, cheesy taquito roll ups, ground beef cooked in rice-a-roni, and an omelette that is basically just a thin egg coating over way too much ham and cheese. Also included were cherries, watermelon, Haagen-Dasz and coke to drink.
Matthew had a nice Father's Day morning opening his bags of treats the kids helped to pick out. He requested, sausage, fruit, and coffee -nothing else. But I also made some olive bread toast with sliced tomatoes and he accepted my offering.
Nothing says Father's Day like risking life and limb for your children.
He hung our last swing and fixed our tire swing.
I fear the pumpkin patch under the hammock swing is not long for this world with little tramping feet, but as the beauty berry bush grows it will continue to be a nice shady spot.
Quotes:
Theodore
"Whoa! Our garden is magical! Everywhere you look there's just life, life, life!"
He knows his sister is scared of a story where feet come through the ceiling so he's just in his bedroom minding his own business singing to the tune of The Wheels on the Bus, "The feet through the ceiling spin round and round, round and round, round and round..."
Veronica
"*Sigh* I wish I was the goddess of gravy and sausage."
