FIFTEEN

Still working on her selfie angles...
 2017 week fifteen

Oh delicious spring evenings in Texas.

My buddy has been so awfully sick. Week after week of ear infections. And when he doesn't feel well he doesn't eat well, and when he doesn't eat well,  he doesn't sleep well. And when he doesn't sleep well, all our lives are hell. A poem by a tired mother.

A moment of peace with some iced Rooibos tea and reading up about the care and keeping of chickens.

A beautiful dinner this week: Thai Salmon Mango Salad

Recipe: Marinate salmon in mixture of soy sauce, fish sauce, yuzu ponzu sauce, sesame oil and sesame seeds, grated ginger and grated garlic. Grill.
Serve on a bed of mixed lettuce greens, sliced or spiralized cucumber carrots and radishes, sliced avocados and mangos.
Top with chopped peanuts, green onions, and cilantro.
Drizzle with dressing made with yuzu ponzu sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, peanut oil and as much lime juice as you can stand.

On Saturday it was raining and hailing and storming all day. So I made tea and chocolate souffle while everyone napped.

They were happy to wake up to these chocolatey bowls of delicious.

V saved up her allowance money for three weeks to go to Claires to buy some clip on earrings. The first pair she bought broke while we were still in the store. The second pair waited until we were in the parking lot. Luckily they were repairable with a bit of hot glue. She LOVES them.

V's cute school project about Flamingos.

When you're eating a cheese stick, but need two hands to draw...

Matt helped me to build our chicken coop this week. Sam wasn't there and he didn't help. :) A cousin was there and she did help.

Frame almost complete.

The plan was to make it small enough to slip in under the fairy hut in the corner so the honeysuckle could cover it to provide shade and beauty. BUT it ended up being much larger than I had anticipated (which is really good. It will be much easier to clean at this size.) so we had to basically dismantle the fairy hut and reattach the honeysuckle onto it's new structure.

I really love it. I am so excited for my little chickies to get to live here. Also, check out my fancy totalitarian distopia jumpsuit. I may look like I live in the Hunger Games, but these coveralls are the best best best for yardwork.

I'm sure my children will spend so much more time in here now that it is not a playhouse designed for them. :| We're almost done. We just need to make a water/rat proof base and put in some flooring.

And here they are! The Chickies! We have two Buff Orpingtons, a Copper Maran and a Cuckoo Maran. Only the Copper Maran has been claimed and named so far (Theo named her Jolene Fluffaboo).

Quotes

Theodore

Last week Theo got his finger slammed in the door by the wind! It turned black and was awful. Saturday morning he brushed something weird and his whole nail popped up just barely connected. I pulled it off for him and then he was so excited he shouted to the room of ballet moms
"Hooray! Now I can put my nail under my pillow for the tooth fairy!"
Everyone laughed. It was very precious.

"Little Red Robin Hood."

Veronica

She gets mixed up with the difference between "Month" and "Season"
"After this season is it going to be my birthday?!"

V- "Mama. Why don't you ever take me to the sport?" (ahem, she is obviously our child. oblivious to sports...)
Me- "What kind of sport?"
V- "I want to play the soccer sport."
Me - "Do you know what soccer is?"
V- "No."
Me - "You run and kick a ball and try to get the ball into the other team's net."
V- "And then you win a PRIZE?!"
Me- "No. Then you win a point. Whichever team has the most points at the end -"
V- "WINS A PRIZE!?"
Me- "No. They just win the game and the happy feeling from winning."
V- "Oh... well I guess I still want to try it."
