THIRTY-TWO

Hot Wednesday morning at Dinosaur Valley with a lovely troupe of boys. Isaac is V's age and she just adores him. They click seamlessly and on the way home she told me, "Isaac is my best friend. He has to be. He's just the best friend I've ever had. Ever."

2018 week thirty-two

Climbing "cliffs"...

and swimming in murky water.

Everyone was hot, sweaty, smelly, and worn out. It was the type of memory I hope my children have of childhood: being dirty and hot and adventurous.

This is how he dresses when he wants to be a construction worker. Note the yellow crayon in his pocket and his "hard hat."

Catching a few moments of painting before the long-anticipated storm blew in.

Summer time.

I made a blancmange for our Little Women book club. People were surprised to find they kind of liked almond milk jello. :)

Another chicken was deposited in our yard. We don't yet know the culprit(s), but rest assured, they are now sentinels guarding our front door.
Quotes:

Theodore fell at the playground and hit his face hard on a balance beam. Veronica was much closer to him than I was. He ran to her, wrapped his arms around her, and buried his face in her chest and started sobbing. She looked at me and looked at him oddly for a moment before slowly raising her arms to awkwardly pat him on the back. It was good enough for him and he didnt want to let go. It was very tender.

Theodore loves to tell us silly things that happen to him "at work." He always ends them with a scoff and lopsided grin. They are priceless.
T- "Yeah, excuse me Mama, we have that at work. And I always try to scare daddy at work and there are so many stuffed animals at work."
Me- "Oh really?"
T- *scoff* "Yeah. It's too silly."

I was showing T and V a picture of the planets orbiting the sun.
V- "Look Theodore this is the sun. And these are the planets around it."
Me- "This is Mercury. This is Venus."
V- "Where is Texas?"
She is a dyed in the wool Texan. You can't teach that kind of Texas pride.
