2025 week thirty-nine

Lords, Ladies, and Peasants day. I was so grateful for my friend who offered to let me borrow her Regency get up for the day. 

Fandom Day. I carried my Felicity doll around with me all day as a fan of American Girl. 

Fandom Day: Theo a fan of the Braves, V a fan of Stranger Things. She was very proud of her Eleven outfit. 

She's a bit obsessed with Stranger Things at the moment. This is what I came back to after carline. 

V and the cutest little future Founders student. 

V's team won their first game for the season! They have been working so hard and improving. 

I told the kids I had to mow the lawn once more before they could decorate for Halloween. On Sunday morning they were unleashed to do their worst. 

They were very proud of their set up. 

I started my fall planting today. I got starters of broccoli, cabbage, and cauliflower. In the time it took me to set the starts by the garden, get my gloves and spade, the chickens had descended on them and were shredding them! I set up all the gating I could, and during dinner we see the turkey just stroll up and stick her head through the bars and start chomping away at the cauliflower. 

We had Kip chase the birds into the coop and I went out to see the damage. 2/3rds of the cabbage are now stumps. They also ate all my chives. That has never happened before. I thought chickens didn't care for alliums... Beastly birds. 

We had our Hobbit Dinner tonight. I like to make the meal the Hobbits ate when they stayed the night at the Prancing Pony, to mark the beginning of fall. "In a twinkling the table was laid. There was hot soup, cold meats, a blackberry tart, new loaves, slabs of butter, and half a ripe cheese: good plain food, as good as the Shire could show..."

THIRTY-EIGHT

 

V had so much fun at the Middle School Social. She particularly enjoyed "Arriving in style" on the electric scooter with me.

2025 thirty-eight

Saturdays are for baseball these days.

Theo sliding into home. He does a little jump before he slides. V hit a great pop fly in her game but it was caught. 

V got to score keep during Theo's game.

After the game we went to Central Market for their big Oktoberfest. 

There were German treats and samples throughout the store. 

We had a really fun time even though it was just a grocery store. Ha.

I brought in my table loom for my students to try weaving during carline. It has been a huge hit. I'm anticipating I'll be begged to thread it again soon so they can keep weaving. 

I have a special delight in my school snack-time yogurt breakfasts. They change seasonally and bring me so much joy. Right now its homemade yogurt with chia seeds and pumpkin seeds, a swirl of pumpkin butter, fresh figs and a dollop of mixed nut butter. That with a cup of earl grey is such a pleasure.

I made some tomato lentil soup. It was delicious, but my family has had a lot of soup lately and just couldn't handle any more leftovers. There was a little bit left in the pot so I told V to give it to the dog. She comes rushing to me hysterical.

V- "I gave Kip the soup and she bent down to sniff it. She gave it a little lick and yelped, winced, and lifted up her paw!"

T- "HA! I told you it wasn't good. That dog will eat chicken poop but she wont even eat your soup! Hahahahaa!"

2025 week thirty-seven 

It’s so fun to try to sneak a photo of your preteen. They hate it. 

The kids found Matt’s old game boy and have rediscovered the joys of 90s Pokémon games 

 

It’s been such a mild late summer. All of these vines are from one single sweet potato.

2025 week thirty-six

Each year when I read The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, I wear my mother-in-laws old fur coat. The students always love to see it and stroke the hem. 

Saturday evening we had such a fun time celebrating the birthday of a good friend of ours. We had unseasonably glorious cool weather and we were all able to just enjoy being outside in September, in Texas...

Theo helped Matt replace one of our outlets for a new cover with a built in night light. Theo did the entire job himself. 

The last wall of the garage is spackled, painted, and trimmed and ready for it's final adornment. 

Matt's tool wall looks amazing now. All that's left is a workbench and a deep freezer.

After being the grumpiest girl in the world, "My nap did make me feel better but I was just too stubborn to admit it and I wanted to be angry longer." Nothing that a mandatory trip to the grocery store and surprise Boba cannot fix.

"Oh no! I think my nymph modes are swollen!"

I was kissing Theo goodnight but I had to use the bathroom before singing him a song. When I came back into his dark room I bent down to give him a kiss but kissed Kip right on the mouth. Theo had called her up silently while I was out and put her in his place. He just about choked on his own hysterical laughter.

It has felt so much like autumn this week. 

2025 week thirty-five

Parking lot sunset glory. I can walk about three miles around the parking lot and baseball fields while V is at softball practice. 

The kids spent a rainy Saturday making boats to float down our alley while Matt and I were laying around fighting off a head cold. 

The chickens have gotten too bold and are making a mess of our porch. They are banished back into the chicken run for a while.

T- "OW you threw the cat on me!"
V- "I set him on you -there is a difference."
T-"Yeah! There's a difference between YOU and NICE!"

T- "Wow, you are being such a Veronica."
Me- "You cannot use your sister's name as a derogatory term."

2025 week thiry-four

Two weekends ago at Grandpa's Back to School Banana Split Party. 

Turkey update. The skin has almost completely grown back. I cannot believe how well Sylvadine worked to help her regrow skin. 

A student drew a picture of me during carline. 

Baseball season has begun. Hot Saturday mornings with an iced tea and a book.
