TWENTY-ONE

Salem, fairy flower prince. We have an over abundance of nasturtium right now, and Theo is enchanted by the idea of edible flowers and he picks them all the time. They taste interesting, but I can't eat the handfuls that he picks. They make perfect little cat hats though.

2021 week twenty-one

It's been off and on rainy for weeks now. Last Sunday was just a stormy drizzly day, and V spent her entire day on this chair in front of the window devouring Harry Potter.

We had an extra fancy coffee o'clock last weekend.

V got to go to an old kindergarten friend's birthday party last weekend. It was a super cute movie theatre themed party, and she did NOT want to leave.

She so charmingly 8 years old.

Matt had an Austin work trip this week, and even though he was crazy busy, he had a good time having a bit of a break in the normal routine.

A little behind the scene shot of how rings are made.

T and V got to spend the afternoon celebrating Great Grandma Hatch's birthday.

They're lucky to have grandparents around to spend time with them. Sometimes V gets a little uncomfortable with the grandmas who have memory troubles, but I'm glad she gets to see this part of life.

This Sunday we spent most of our day in our gloriously lush yard. I've never had as good luck with my garden as I have this year. We have at least eight pounds of tomatoes just waiting for a week of sunshine to turn red. And our sunflowers are taller than the fence now!

The chickens got two new bales of straw and had the time of their lives fluffing it up and nestling in.

Matt just spur of the moment decided to tackle all of the looming garage projects Sunday morning. The kids were left to their own devices.

They kind of went wild, and today have more than a couple bruises and scrapes that are bothering them to show for their magical day.

Part of the wild was unfettered access to our drawers of hardware. Theo was so deeply happy about it.

In the middle of this project, Theo came dancing up to me just to say, "I'm having the best day ever!"

One of our clay pots wasn't fired properly and was soft and crumbling. So Matt gave him a sledge hammer, and we didn't see him for a few hours.

The finished glory. Now the only things on the floor of the garage are our bikes. Ready to be ridden to school every day come fall.

We finished the final sweeping as our friends came to have a farewell dinner with us before they move to Georgia. We had a Texas chili and ricotta cake with cream and berries. While we sat and chatted for hours, the littler ones ran wild again. V came in at one point because she had peed herself laughing so hard, and Theo was limping this morning as a result of the hard fun. Yesterday was a perfect day, other than saying goodbye to the Cruzes. We will miss them so dearly.

Quotes

Theo- "Can you please come here so I can check to see if you're still beautiful? Yep you are."

Theo- "Wait, who is the princess of Texas?"
Me- "There is no princess of Texas?"
Theo- "What?! Why isn't there a princess of Texas? Soon, I think you will probably be it."

Me singing to Veronica, "Hush a bye, and goodnight in the sky stars are-"
Theo (shouting from the next room)- "DAMAGED!"
Me continuing, "Round your head, flowers gaze, scent your slumber 'till day. Close your eyes-"
Theo - "AND SHUT YOUR MOUTH!"
Me- "You're your mother's delight, guardian angels round your bed -"
Theo -"POOP ON YOUR HEAD!"

Theo- "What does this song say? 'If I only had a bun hole'?"

Theo singing, " If I only had a heart, I could pump so much blood as much as a miracle! If I only had a brain, I could think thoughts up to the universe!"

Vera- "That's Theodore Roosevelt!"
Theo- "Ooooh, he looks COOL!"
