Camping at Lake Ray Roberts
2014 week thirty-eight
Camping with a toddler is a very different experience from camping with a baby.
Nice off focus artsy shot, photographer husband ;)
Before the camping demons broke loose and possessed Vera.
But to be fair, she only pooped on the toilet while we were there. So, that was fantastic.
Shouting at the fire at 7am, after only 5 hours of sleep...
Detox dinner the next day to get all the sausage, chips, and soda out of our system.
Last weekend we went camping with 4 other couples at a nearby lake for the night. We love camping. We are those weirdos who really like it and don't just pretend to like it because you are supposed to like camping. Well, we did like camping. Even with a baby we thought, "This is no big deal! Babies are the best! Way to go not ruining camping V!" Then V learned to walk. Camping is beyond exciting for a toddler, even if you fall two dozen times on the rocky ground. We let Vera stay up until 8 pm thinking she'd be all tired out and go to sleep right away. Right a-wrong. She ring wraith screamed if we made her lie down, and pressed her face up against the mesh laughing and giggling if we didn't. By midnight everyone finally went to bed and V calmed down enough to sleep. Thank heavens. But for some reason, someone from every. single. tent. had to get up at 4am to do something. Every. single. tent. So, Vera in her naturally good natured way was excited to carry on the partying. But since we wanted her to sleep she screamed for a sweaty hour until she finally fell asleep again. For 1 more hour. That was it. Then she was done and ready to be up. We collectively agreed it was the literal worst night's sleep we've ever had. But who was happy as a clam toddling around the campsite at 6am? My lovely bumbling daughter. Obviously this just means we need to take her camping more. :)
