It is hard to imagine that all this personality was in my belly. And Vera, this little person, has been around for a whole year (in various forms). She was easy in my belly and now in my arms.
Speaking of a year ago, well eight in fact. Happy baptism day to me!
We love her so much. Yesterday at dinner we were laughing at her as she was kicking her feet in a very well-timed rhythmic manner. Very marching meets dancing. She's currently growth spurting and has a runny nose/runny mouth -how do you produce so much drool? She still really hates tummy time, but she can hold her head up a bunch.
Do you see that crazy left eyebrow? That is 100% papa.
The other day we went to Lowe's to buy wood because Husband is amazing and so crafty and eco-friendly and built me a rain water storage system. Well we were piling fence posts into the basket and Vera was in her carseat precariously balanced in the baby sitting part of the cart. You know, as we do. Husband was super nervous about her being up there. I gave him my best, "I'm the Mom and I know what I'm doing. And I do this all the time. How-do-you-think-I-go-grocery-shopping-all-the-time," spiel. (If you've never read that word, as I hadn't until now, it's that "schpiel" sounding one)
And then the basket tipped over.
And midst my mom reflexes to dive to swipe the carseat off of the tottering basket, something -probably the basket or all that wood -hit my thighs so hard. They were swollen and after almost a week, still resemble nebulas.

Oh look, a baby star is being born on my thigh. Lovely. And then you know, Dinah wants to walk on it, or Husband jabs me in the night...
But I saved her life and that's what matters.
Vera can grab things now! On purpose. This is not your average yanking a lock of mom's hair mid scream grabbing. This is "Oh. My. Gosh. Look. At. This. BALL!" grabbing.
"Do you see this ball? Can you even believe it? Tastes so good."
"No, seriously. LOOK AT THIS BALL!"
She is the best. I find myself asking her a hundred times a day why babies are so cute. She is speechless with wonder -wonder, I'm sure of it.
She is so great, I almost want another one. But the other one probably wont fall asleep without crying or being held, or sleep through the night at 6 weeks, or sit contentedly while we watch a movie. There's no way another one could be this great. But still, she's so sweet.
And in conclusion, Dinah dreams of flying.
