BEING AT HOME

Veronica is now nine days old. The past seven days of being at home have been so much easier than I anticipated. Much of that is because my dear friend Lauren is here to help me out. But baby Veronica has been such a calm and reasonable baby. I try to talk to her as much as possible about what is going on, especially if she has to wait to be fed because I'm in the shower or bathroom. I think speaking to her in a calm voice has helped me to not freak out when I haven't known why she is crying, and I think it helps her feel calmly reassured.

She sleeps for 3-4 hour blocks, eats for 40 minutes. She learned how to nurse really quickly and she is very good at it. She has only cried when she was hungry, my breasts were engorged and it was hard for her to eat, her diaper was extremely wet, or she was cold. She hasn't fussed once so far. Because she sleeps so well I've been feeling like I have more energy than I actually do and I've had to slow myself down because I've tried to do too much.

I feel so lucky that she has been so great so far. We were able to go out to eat, go grocery shopping, go to Target. Pretty much our lives thus far have not been much disturbed. This makes Husband very happy too because he can sleep in our room and we can do what we want with very little interruption. We love this little thing.

In other very exciting news, I was able to button up (comfortably) pre-pregnancy pants today! Yahoo! I also feel almost entirely recovered. I have noticed, however, that while I have lost my weight, I have also lost my muscle. My butt/arms/legs/belly are much smaller, but they are also much flabbier. But hooray for no more maternity clothes!

For the next several years (or longer) I am now a stay-at-home mom. I am so pleased to be able to stay at home with lovely baby Veronica. Thank you baby girl for letting me be your mom. I love you so much already.
